Heroic Response Tool Box
The HR Toolbox is an extension of the Kids Kicking Cancer Heroes’ Circle that we began three years ago with major assistance from the Centers for Disease Control. It is a very innovative program that will change Kids Kicking Cancer’s ability to reach out to thousands of more children and adults who can benefit significantly from the empowerment, focused breathing and relaxation work that we do. It will also allow us financially to expand our program. There is considerable evidence that simple relaxation techniques can have a profound implication on human physiology.
Purpose:
To utilize our proven techniques of stress and pain management to assist adult populations while empowering children and sustaining the growth of Kids Kicking Cancer.
The service we are providing will assist potentially tens of thousands of people, address a myriad of health issues and create a fully sustainable Heroes’ Circle for people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.
We have received a 96% approval rating amongst employees who describe this workshop as having “a profound impact on their lives.”
Need:
U.S. industry loses an estimated three hundred billion dollars a year in stress costs. Kids Kicking Cancer has created a stress seminar that uses the same breathing, meditation and imaging techniques we have very successfully introduced into pediatric health care.
The HR Toolbox is a very innovative program that will change Kids Kicking Cancer’s ability to reach out to thousands of more children and adults who can benefit significantly from the empowerment, focused breathing and relaxation work that we do. It will also make us a fully sustained not for profit. There is considerable evidence that simple relaxation techniques can have a profound implication on human physiology. The long term health implications are extraordinary. There are over 15 billion dollars worth of stress management programs and products out on the market today. According to the Human Resource professionals we have spoken with, there is no other product like the HR Toolbox.
Every part of the HR Toolbox, as the Heroes’ Circle, is an integrated composite of two populations. Therefore, we are describing two missions, two sets of activities, two expected outcomes and two distinct plans of evaluation. The beauty of the Heroes’ Circle as articulated within the HR Toolbox, is that both sides of the program enlist, support and reward each other. They are profoundly integrated. The human spirit of the Heroes’ Circle has created an alchemy of inspiration that is truly golden. The most compelling aspect of our request is that through achieving the appropriate funding necessary to grow this program, Kids Kicking Cancer will become a fully sustainable organization able to assist more children and their families without the need of returning to the generosity of public and private coffers.
The HR Toolbox we have created is:
1. Inherently credible because of the well known focus and power associated with the martial arts
2. Practical because the breathing techniques are very easy to teach
3. Effective because of the inspiration the children provide
4. Ongoing because the children receive updated “thank yous” from the employees who use these techniques
5. Therapeutic for the children of the Heroes’ Circle as it presents ongoing evidence that they are really “teaching the world”
“A Tale of Two Missions”
Mission #1 – The Students of Kids Kicking Cancer:
To ease the pain of very sick children while empowering them to heal physically, spiritually and emotionally using the martial arts as a platform of healing and empowerment.
Mission #2 – The “World” To empower people of all ages to use the very simple relaxation, breathing and meditative techniques found in the martial arts to lower their bodies’ stress levels while giving spirit and purpose to the amazing children of Kids Kicking Cancer.
Activities: The Students of Kids Kicking Cancer:
Through the HR Toolbox, students in the Kids Kicking Cancer program will be reinforced in the message that we are constantly emphasizing: “You children are teaching the world.” Videos will be made after each seminar in which the participants thank the children for teaching them how to integrate these life saving techniques into their own lives.
A “Stress Switch” is being created that will be a simple desktop icon or “widget” that will be an HTML connection to a web page on an enhanced server. When employees click on to this icon, they will be shown a stream of our Kids Kicking Cancer children demonstrating the techniques that they are currently using to conquer their pain, fear and anger. Cameras will capture their testimony of heroic strength and their methods during classes. Web cam laptops will make possible the addition of streaming video from dying and very sick children who are otherwise, isolated. Large monitors in our classes will project the web “hits”. Every time someone clicks their stress switch, the number will go up. Our children will be able to see the direct evidence in “real time” that they are teaching the world. This will go further in integrating the Kids Kicking Cancer mantra: “Power, Peace, Purpose” for children who are healing and for children who are not.
Beyond the initial stage of seminar development, there are several potential streams of funding that this can create. Funding from the HR Toolbox will allow Kids Kicking Cancer a steady opportunity of earned revenue that will allow us to train more and more martial arts health care professionals and include thousands of new children to our program.
Activities- The “World”
We have begun already to experiment with the HR Toolbox Seminar. Kids Kicking Cancer has been contracting HR workshop seminars to companies where we present an interactive program consisting of video, PowerPoint, breathing and meditation demonstrations and when practical our young students’ live performance. Seminars are 90 minutes to three hours but can be scaled back to 75 or 60 minutes if necessary.
Seminar topics covered include:
- Understanding the physiology of stress
- Acute vs. chronic stress
- Power eating, sleeping and living
- Learning how to “pull” and not “push”
- Focus, flow and communication
- Breathing techniques that are easy to do
- Meditations that have immediate impact
- Breathing through back and head pain
- Biofeedback without machines
- Taking control of our lives
- Creating an inner mantra of empowerment
- If these children can do it, so can you!
- Your active participation will help these children
There are over 15 billion dollars worth of stress management seminars and tools purchased yearly by Americans. Studies indicate that the greatest challenge to successful integration of healthy behavior education is ambivalence. Teaching people the physiology of stress and its inherent dangers is not enough. Even when coupled with credible, easy to learn tools such as the techniques found in the martial arts, will not change a significant percentage of people’s behavior without creating an ongoing motivation to integrate those health improvements. The HR Toolbox provides that ongoing connection and motivation. By using the easy and transportable breathing techniques, people will be helping our children with cancer. An active “Stress Switch” on the employee desktop will reconnect them to our students on a daily basis.
Outcomes – The Students of Kids Kicking Cancer:
An active “Stress Switch” widget will allow HR employees to receive a daily message of inspiration and empowerment from our children along with our patent pending “Breath Brake” that provides measurable relief from the “cortisol rush” of stress. At the same time, our classes will have large screens with the online numbers of how many people are being inspired by them. Bedside, laptop versions of these numbers keep changing in front of the children’s eyes. Every time someone clicks the “Stress Switch” these children are able to reframe themselves as victors rather than victims.. This empowers the boys and girls while providing daily motivation for the employees to continue to use these tools for themselves on an ongoing basis.
A “Stress Vent” will open up email opportunities for employees to journal their stress and receive template responses from the children. Giving the children a purpose in their disease lowers their pain, fear and anger. (All communication between the HR participants and the children will go through the Kids Kicking Cancer server administrator and instructors to maintain the privacy and security of the children.)
Outcomes – “The World”
According to NIOSH, stress robs American industry of over 300 billion dollars a year. Obesity, substance abuse, back pain and a myriad of chronic ailments can be traced to stress. The number one reason why employees leave their jobs is stress (40%). This, in itself, represents a very large cost to the business world. The teaching of simple, transportable and credible stress reduction techniques through an innovative and powerful platform can have a significant impact on mortality and morbidity. The positive impact on a company is important. However, the greater impact on national health and wellbeing can be extraordinary.
